Influence of strain-hardening models and slopes on the predicted residual stresses in structural steel S235 weldments

The objective of this research is to systematically understand how strain-hardening models and phase- temperature-dependent slopes affect the computed residual stresses in single-pass welded joints made widely used structural steel S235. Both experimental methods numerical simulation have been utilized for investigation. results reveal that material plasticity model has a massive effect on predicted welding (WRS). calculated magnitude WRS base metal (BM) adjacent weld zone inside plate largest when isotropic hardening used, while it smallest applying kinematic model. comparison predictions with measurements shows can predict more accurately S235 steel. change generated phases (austenite bainite case) practically no impact WRS. longitudinal stress (LRS) amount BM nearby highly sensitive applied initial microstructure (ferrite here), transverse (TRS) not. In contrast at elevated temperatures, room temperature plays crucial role simulated LRS. study, guidance provided specific be determined economically reliably simulation.
